Every seat at the table. One operator.

Michael O'Mara helps fast growing marketing communications optimize their business for profit

Michael O’Mara is an operating executive who has spent 25+ years helping growing agencies and consumer businesses become more profitable. What sets him apart is the range of seats he has held: brand manager on the client side, account leader on the agency side, and COO with full P&L ownership across the operating system. Most operators come up through finance or operations alone; Michael has worked across the table, the delivery model, and the business itself.

He has sat in the brand chair. He began in brand management, running product portfolios for national manufacturers and leading rebranding, product segmentation, and go-to-market work.

He has led accounts, not just delivery. At a national, digital-first agency focused on healthcare and consumer brands, he ran annual planning, positioning, and go-to-market strategy for major client relationships before moving into operations.

He has run the P&L — and everything underneath it. As Chief Operating Officer, he oversaw HR and IT alongside the rest of the business, negotiated eight-figure service contracts with enterprise procurement teams, and helped scale the firm from 50 to more than 275 employees while sustaining 20%+ margins. He also led both sides of M&A integration: bringing a 14-person acquisition into three new industry verticals and later helping integrate the agency after it was acquired. Along the way, he drove HRIS, PSA, and cloud-migration upgrades that modernized how the agency operated.

Most recently, as President & COO of a 55-person, independently owned public affairs and strategic communications firm based in Washington, D.C., he took full P&L ownership and led the firm’s multi-year strategic planning process. He rebuilt pricing and delivery, cut over-servicing by 95%, more than doubled EBITDA, upgraded the firm’s PSA, CRM, and performance-management systems, and built a new integrated offering that grew cross-discipline revenue from one-fifth of the business to nearly half in two years.

It's the same pattern every time: client and agency, buyer and seller, acquirer and acquired — Michael has never worked from only one side of the table.

That is the perspective he brings to growing agencies now: client-side experience to understand what buyers value, agency-side account leadership to understand how work really gets sold and delivered, and agency operating experience to turn growth into profit instead of just size.
